Dear Supporter,

I don’t know about you but the beauty of spring never fails to impress-and inspire. The blossoms and blooms arrive and with them they bring a magical burst of brightness to our lives-very much needed after a cold wet winter.

Spring is such a miraculous time of year where we are surrounded by reminders of second chances and hope- things that perhaps feel in short supply with continued talks of recession and other economic woes BUT it is so wonderful that the seasons remain true and remind us of brighter and better days to come.

Now, on to Tree Shepherd business and not to be upstaged by Mother Nature, we have been busy bees with all manner of activities to support our community members and service users.
As much as we may have liked to, May hasn’t seen us sitting around enjoying the sunny days in our lovely London. Our number one priority has been our Thrive move.

What, haven’t you heard????……Thrive has moved! We're so excited to have relocated to a busier space which will be frequented by even more people. Our new space puts the 12 independent businesses that we currently support right in the heart of the action at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. The new location offers them a base where they can develop and grow to make sure they remain vital parts of the local economy and community.

In other news, we have recently sent out the latest in our Peckham Business Forum newsletters. The Forum is really starting to take shape now and we foresee really bright things with respect to what they will achieve as a group- not only for their own businesses but for the community as a whole. There are some big things about to happen so watch out for future updates- or if you’d like to find out about the forum drop us a line.

As always, I hope that spring continues to bring you many of nature’s finest gifts and that you literally find the time to stop and smell the roses.

I thank you as always for your continued support.

All the best,
Sandra and the Tree Shepherd Team

What’s been going on-

We’ve welcomed 3 new Tree Shepherd family members- April has had the mammoth task of stepping into Jamie-Lee’s shoes whilst she’s on maternity leave. Well, we are happy to report that April is every bit as good as we expected her to be! She has been such a help with the Thrive move ensuring that everything runs smoothly and that we deliver the first class service that we’re known for.
Speaking of delivering- Jamie-Lee has had a little boy! We can confirm that he is as gorgeous as his mother and a total angel on earth. Both mother and son are doing well.

Last but certainly not least, we welcomed Natasha. She has joined us as a volunteer and is working Alongside Rhian on all sorts of projects across Tree Shepherd. We certainly aren’t surprised to say this but, she is fast becoming another truly invaluable member of our family.

Upcoming events

Create Markets

🚀Over the next 3 months @createfoundation will be hosting 'makers markets' at @popbrixton .

🎉These will be a chance to celebrate and platform the young creatives in our communities.

The Market dates are:📅
June 10th
July 8th / 9th

📣These markets represent a great opportunity for talented people to get their work into the public domain, make some money from themselves and forge new peer and professional connections.

👀We're looking for as many young people as possible to participate, get themselves out there and generate some support for their ideas and work.

Create Showcase are really interested to hear from people from a diversity of backgrounds making or creating fashion, art and homeware and, they have free and subsidised spaces for any young person from #lambeth for whom price might be a barrier.

Insight into industry

The Paddington Development Trust is currently working on two Mayor’s Academies programmes -‘You’re Welcome!’ and ‘Visions’ that we think are the perfect opportunity to find out more about the realities of working in the hospitality industry.

On the 6th June 2023, they’ll be holding a free taster day event called ‘Insight into Industry’. It will feature live demonstrations from people currently engaging in hospitality and creative pathways through the Mayors Hubs, Capital City College and Westminster Kingsway College.

We are urging our ‘Women in Enterprise’ members to attend but the event is open to all individuals who are invited to come down, try things out, network, check out opportunities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to come and listen to the experiences of industry professionals or people that have made the transition into said fields either from community and entry level or an academic pathway.

Attendance is free and you can register here

Is a new career (self-employment) your resolution?
Do you happen to have self-employment (or starting a side-hustle) on your list of New Year’s resolutions? Do you have a dream of eventually being your own boss full time- or maybe the cost of living crisis is still very much a part of your life, and earning a bit more is a necessity to help make ends meet?
