Black History Month

It’s October and that can only mean one thing- it’s Black History Month.

This year’s theme is “Saluting our Sisters”, and it gives us all as a society the opportunity to celebrate the role black women have played not only in shaping British history but also their seemingly limitless ability to inspire and push forward change.

Despite often facing challenges and adversity Black women have nobly and unflinchingly confronted those challenges head-on. This is why we stand united in celebrating their accomplishments and lifting each and every one of them up.

At Tree Shepherd we have the great privilege and honour of working daily with amazing and inspirational Black women. Women who are embarking on the journey of relaunching their careers, pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams, and establishing successful businesses- and it’s to them that we want to shout out and honour not only during Black History Month but at every single opportunity (watch out on our socials where we’ll be linking their accounts- go and give them a follow and share! They’ll love you for it!)

So, what can you do to get involved in celebrating the numerous and amazing contributions that Black women have made to our society?

Share :

  • Highlight all the inspiring Black women you know. Share their social accounts, tell your friends, family and colleagues about them. Give them the recognition and praise that they are so deserving of. We’ll be sharing the social media accounts and businesses of our Black female clients, we urge you to follow, share and support them and their efforts through purchasing from their accounts.

Connect:

  •  Engage in conversations with fellow women in social media discussions. Join committees, groups and forums (such as the Peckham Business Forum!) Share your experiences, exchange stories, and connect with those who have walked similar paths.

Black History Month isn’t solely about the past It’s also about the future.

It’s about turning the page, celebrating the present, and building the dreams we rightfully deserve.

As we celebrate this month,  we remind ourselves that we should be working towards a position in which one month doesn’t become the only focus point in which Black creativity, contributions and accomplishments are acknowledged.

Together, let’s stand in unity, recognize the strength in our voices, and effect positive change. Our sisters who came before us paved the way, and together, we are an unstoppable force.

In the words of Coco Gauff, US Open Champion 2023:

“To those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas to it.”
