Client Spotlight: Clementine Social CIC
Co-Founders: Bettina & Hannah | Based in Lambeth
At Tree Shepherd, we’re always inspired by the creative, community-minded entrepreneurs we meet—and Clementine Social CIC is a shining example of what can happen when friendship, artistic vision, and a deep sense of care come together. Co-founded by Bettina and Hannah, Clementine Social is a community interest company rooted in connection, creativity, and inclusion.
Let’s Start with You
Bettina and Hannah met 25 years ago in their local children’s centre and have been close collaborators ever since. Over time, their shared passion for creativity and community has become something much bigger.
Bettina, originally from Switzerland and now based in London, brings a background in fashion, textile technology, fine arts, and curatorship, with years of experience leading community programmes in Early Years and family education. Hannah is a London-based artist and art psychotherapist, whose career in fine art sculpture and public art spans over 30 years.
Together, they co-lead Clementine Social CIC, working at the intersection of art, well-being, and community development.
“Clementine Social was born from a shared belief in the transformative power of creativity. We’ve both seen how art can open doors—for connection, confidence, and personal growth.”
A Business with Heart
Clementine Social CIC is a space where people of all backgrounds can come together through inclusive visual arts workshops. Their sessions are designed to foster self-expression, confidence, and creativity, all while strengthening social ties.
“Our work is rooted in equal opportunity and the belief that creativity is a tool for empowerment. Through shared artistic experiences, we aim to create welcoming spaces where people can connect, thrive, and feel a sense of belonging.”
It’s a mission that is as much about community care as it is about creativity.
“We love witnessing the subtle but powerful changes that happen when people make art together—how they begin to trust their own ideas, express themselves freely, and feel seen.”
Connecting with Tree Shepherd
Clementine Social’s connection with Tree Shepherd began organically—first through local events like the Lambeth Country Show, and then more directly through GLOWS Makerspace.
“Hannah rents space at GLOWS, and through Magdalen’s introduction, we got to know Tree Shepherd more closely. That connection opened up space to share our work and be part of a wider creative network.”
Since then, they’ve attended a Tree Shepherd network meeting and delivered two community workshops at GLOWS: lino printing and slow stitching.
“The network event was incredibly encouraging—it gave us the confidence to speak about Clementine Social and connect with like-minded creatives. Running our own workshops helped us understand our audience better and test ideas in a supportive setting.”
🌟 Celebrating Small Wins
One of the recent highlights for Bettina and Hannah has been running our first independent Clementine Social workshops.
“Taking that step to deliver sessions under our own name felt significant. It affirmed our vision and showed us that people are genuinely interested in what we offer. That experience gave us momentum.”
Tree Shepherd played a meaningful role in helping make that leap possible.
“Their encouragement gave us the space to be brave. It’s made a real difference knowing we’re part of a community of people who believe in creativity as a force for good.”
Looking Ahead
Clementine Social has a clear vision for the future—one that’s collaborative, accessible, and rooted in joy.
“We want to expand our reach, secure funding so our workshops can be offered free of charge, and collaborate with a wider circle of artists, creatives, and even chefs. The dream is to create vibrant, inclusive projects that celebrate creative expression and build stronger communities.”
And Tree Shepherd?
“Their support—whether through mentorship, networking, or introductions to funders—will continue to be invaluable. Our missions align closely.”
Words of Encouragement
For anyone thinking of launching a creative venture, Bettina and Hannah offer this thoughtful advice:
“Talk to people. Listen, share, be curious. Don’t be discouraged if your idea isn’t ‘new’—your voice and your way of doing things are unique. And take the time to understand your finances. A simple business plan, even just on one page, can help you avoid burnout and plan for sustainable growth.”
