May 2022 Newsletter

Newsletter

Well here we are folks- nearly halfway through 2022 it’s certainly been a whirlwind of a year so far! Every morning it seems that things are greener and brighter- and I like to think that the same can be said for the futures of all those that we are able to help at Tree Shepherd.

This month we have seen more clients making enquiries to access units and hot desks at Thrive & Glow our affordable workspaces. We are still over the moon from the success of the Pop Up Shop in Brixton Market Row and are busy planning the next ones – #WATCHTHISSPACE!!!

We are finalising a partnership with the British Business Bank offering Start-up loans to small businesses that have been trading for under 36 months. Considering the importance of finance as well as the real block that access to it can cause our clients this is an enormous step for us and something that we have been working on for some time. For more information please contact one of the team who will be happy to discuss if the scheme is right for you.

This month we held a successful Enterprise Event for the business owners and traders from Peckham. The day was filled with networking, learning, sharing and discovery. It was inspiring to see such dedicated people coming together for a shared purpose and I look very much forward to seeing how this very determined group forge ahead with the Peckham Business Forum.

Finally, we are gearing up for the Start Your Own Enterprise which starts in June. We are so grateful to the Walcot foundation for their financial support and of course to POP Brixton for giving us the space to deliver such a valuable event. It isn’t too late to sign up – registration is available to those 18-30 living in Lambeth who are unemployed, on zero hours contracts or work in a casual job. Share the word!

Preparations are certainly in full swing throughout London for the Platinum Jubilee. Sarian Kamara, a member of our community has been invited to be one of over 40 Batonbearers to take on the honourable role of carrying the Baton in the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay. Sarian works tirelessly to end FGM via her charity Keep the Drums, Lose the Knife and I know that you will all join me in wishing her luck as well as thanking her for all her hard and valuable work. Should you wish to support Sarian on the day, her segment will take place at RNLI Tower Lifeboat Station on June 4th at 10am.

What Has Thrive Achieved?

From 2021 to where we stand now in 2022, so much has happened. Recovering from the effects of the pandemic has been, and continues to be a global difficulty, and for independent or small business owners it has no doubt been especially challenging. That’s why at Tree Shepherd we’ve been working that extra bit harder to make sure that each and every single one of our clients have been provided with the well-deserved and needed support over the last twelve months

At Thrive – which is supported by British Land, we specialise in working with entrepreneurs from low-income families in the SE16 area advising and helping them to deal with all the issues that can slow a growing business down.

This month’s blog outlines our achievements to date such as exceeding annual fundraising targets and how we have supported the establishment and growth of local social enterprises.

Meet the trainer- Bob Bell

This month we’ve sat down with Bob Bell, one of our mentors who, like us, believes that no matter what their size, all businesses operate under the same basic principles. Bob has a lifetime’s worth of experience working in the financial industry looking at companies and how they perform, seeing the good and the bad decisions made by them and how sometimes they have been drastically affected by circumstances outside of their control.

We are so lucky to have Bob on board and here to guide and advise our clients on their employment journey.Read the full blog here

qLegal

We have been working with Queen Mary University legal experts to design simple easy to use free toolkits for our clients and their businesses.  We have a workshop scheduled for June 8th where we will be asking– where do you get your legal support, what issues are you facing?  how does this affect your work and plans for your business?  This is an important step in the creation of the Legal Toolkits so we invite you or anyone that you know who may benefit from the kits to take part. Registration available via this link –  https://legaltoolkitforbusiness.eventbrite.co.uk

Holistic Business Coaching

Tree Shepherd is introducing a more holistic coaching approach which brings together life coaching and business support. This is a new service but has been met with real enthusiasm:

Quote from Josie: from Being Lifestyle Peckham Rye Lane

“I was able to really process all my thoughts and she really helped me with a clear vision and goals and broke all my thoughts down into a manageable to-do list!”

Quote from Tiffany McLean, Tree Shepherd Business Coach

“Holistic business coaching provides an opportunity for the client to explore challenges they are having not only in their business but in their life too.”

We will be exploring Holistic Business Coaching in months to come but if you would like to find out more now, please get in touch with one of our team who will be happy to give you more information.
