This month, we’re sitting down with Debáy Semere, an experienced beauty therapist and founder of Debáy Beauty Bar. From working with London’s top mobile beauty agencies to opening her own salon, Debáy’s journey is one of passion, dedication, and resilience.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a beauty therapist with years of experience, having worked with mobile beauty agencies like Blow Limited and Urban, providing home-to-home beauty treatments. I’m also the personal massage therapist for Dr. Ducu, who runs a prestigious clinic in Soho. Now, I run my own salon, Debáy Beauty Bar, located at Thrive Hub, Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. Outside of work, I love spending time with my children, running, and exploring new cultures through travel.
What inspired you to start Debáy Beauty Bar?
I’ve always been passionate about helping people feel confident and relaxed in their own skin. After working as a mobile therapist and building relationships with my clients, I wanted to create my own space—somewhere welcoming, professional, and tailored to individual needs. My dream was to offer more than just beauty treatments; I wanted to provide a holistic experience where clients could truly unwind and feel their best.
What services do you offer?
At Debáy Beauty Bar, we provide a range of beauty treatments, including:
- Facials tailored to different skin types
- Waxing for smooth, long-lasting results
- Massages designed to relieve stress and tension
- Spray tans for a natural, sun-kissed glow
- Beauty consultations to help clients look and feel their best
How did you first hear about Tree Shepherd?
Being local, I had heard of Tree Shepherd through a friend who recommended them. They told me about the incredible support Tree Shepherd offers to small business owners, and I knew it was something I wanted to be part of.
How has Tree Shepherd helped you so far?
I’m just starting my journey with Tree Shepherd, and I’m already looking forward to my first workshop at the end of March. I know that their support, resources, and networking opportunities will help me take my business to the next level.
What are you most proud of achieving recently?
Opening my salon, Debáy Beauty Bar, has been my biggest achievement. I’m also incredibly proud to be the personal massage therapist for Dr. Ducu at his Soho clinic. It’s been a journey of hard work, but seeing my clients leave with a smile makes it all worth it.
How did it feel to reach this milestone?
It felt like a dream come true! There was excitement, pride, and a deep sense of gratitude for the support I’ve received from my clients, family, and now, Tree Shepherd.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
I want to grow Debáy Beauty Bar into a thriving salon known for its personalised care and welcoming atmosphere. I’d love to expand my services, build a strong client base, and eventually open multiple locations.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own business?
Go for it! It’s hard work, but the rewards are worth it. Believe in yourself, stay committed to your vision, and don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you.
