Award-winning charity Bankside Open Space Trust (BOST) is looking for new trustees to join its committed and dynamic Board.

We are particularly looking for candidates with experience in financial managementoperational human resources and charity management.

This is an exciting time to join and help shape a unique organisation with ambitions to grow and change with the wider Bankside area. BOST has successfully managed the many challenges associated with the COVID crisis and will shortly be publishing its financial results for the year ending March 2021.

About Bankside Open Spaces Trust

Bankside Open Spaces Trust is an environmental and volunteering charity.

It was set up in 2000 by a group of local residents with the aim of improving people’s health and wellbeing by making where they live and work greener and more beautiful. Together with our partners and volunteers, we protect, preserve and enhance parks, gardens and other amenities in London’s SE1 and surrounding areas.

We manage and maintain open spaces, welcome volunteers from both the community and the corporate sector.

We also run regular gardening groups, support park steering groups, organise and take part in public events and educational projects, and offer advice to others.

We collaborate closely with local residents and businesses to champion green spaces.

Thousands of people enjoy our open spaces every day. Each of our sites is unique, with its own atmosphere, identity and sense of place.

Our spaces include Red Cross Garden, Marlborough Sports Garden, Waterloo Millennium Green and Tate Community Garden.

About the roles

Trustees are, along with the rest of the Board expected to:

  • Oversee Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s organisational development, financial operations, future strategy, and delivery of objectives.
  • Volunteer strategic advice and practical assistance in relation to particular projects or the organisation as a whole;
  • Ensure that the charity meets its legal obligations; and
  • Ensure that the work of staff provides and sustains high quality services to open spaces in the area.

About the Treasurer role

Working with the support of the Charity’s Finance Manager and CEO, the Treasurer will oversee the financial management of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements and report to the board of trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.

Time commitment 

The Board of BOST meets every two months. Trustees may be involved in standing or ad-hoc sub-committees or task forces that meet between Board meetings, as required.
