The aim of the day was to provide and update on the support available to people in Peckham and to run some workshops to provide useful, practical information and support for the business in Peckham. In the morning session we had guest speakers present information about their organisations. We invited Barclays to give an overview of the services they provide, as they have lots of support for businesses including those that are not actually their customers. They conduct workshops and have a variety of resources available for businesses to help them to grow.

The Safer Business Network were invited to provide information on how they can support businesses in Peckham from a safety aspect. They spoke in depth about the response times they have in comparison to the police or the council and how they can work with the businesses to reduce the criminal activity happening in the local vicinity of the shop premises.

Peckham Organics explained how they were able to diversify their business and cater to the demand of the new people living and visiting the area and the positive impact this has had on the profitability of the business.

The final guest speaker was Network Rail who are responsible for the Peckham Rye Station development. The key themes from this presentation were about the how long the development would take and how the commercial units around the station are being targeted at local independent businesses as opposed to high street chains.

Big thank you to @zionlymanna and @Zaytoongrill_ for supplying the delicious food for the event!!

After a wonderful lunch courtesy of Zionly Manna and Zaytoon Grill we moved in to the second part of the day where we ran two workshops delivered by London Southbank University. The first workshop was about branding and social media, this was an interactive session where business owners learned about how to define their brand and improve their branding, as well as looking in depth at the different social media channels and how to decide what platform would work best for your business.

The 2nd Workshop covered a range of topics around business finance including the distinct types of funding that business can access and how to make your business more attractive to an investor.

It was a successful event and we had lots of great feedback:

Doreen Davies – Pecan
It was a good Event, which I enjoyed the sessions, which was very helpful and informative, in particular the useful networking opportunities. Will be completing the monitoring feedback form. I look forward in receiving the speakers and trainer’s presentations.

Eileen Conn – Peckham Vision
I attended the last two sessions before lunch and the one after lunch. I enjoyed them all and found them useful, especially the social media one. I also enjoyed meeting several people I wouldn’t otherwise have met. I made a good link to follow up with the LSBU people.
The Lebanese vegan food was delicious.
